Foreclosures Forever?

October 31, 2010

Carney points out that the courts and judges are going to be a lot more skeptical as they review foreclosure actions and that the attorneys representing homeowners are likely to be far more aggressive in contesting foreclosures. The outcome might still be that the banks get their security back but it might take a lot longer to get to that result. He also suggests that there might well be another development that we didn’t expect.

Borrowers are also emboldened. For as long as anyone can remember, borrowers who had stopped paying their mortgages rarely contested foreclosures. They may have been broken hearted to lose their homes, but they generally went along with the process that took their home away.

Buffett Partnership Letters: 1961

October 31, 2010

Berkshire Hathaway’s letters to shareholders are oft-quoted and Berkshire’s annual shareholder meeting is well-followed, as value investors try to glean the wisdom of the world’s greatest investor. But before he ran Berkshire, Warren Buffett was far less followed and ran his partnership with a sum of money much smaller than he employs today. The issues he faced then are probably far more relevant to the individual investor today than are Berkshire’s current challenges. The following series attempts to summarize the key takeaways from Buffett’s partnership letters. Regcure

The flash future of the MacBook

October 28, 2010

The new MacBook Air offers a window into the future of Apple’s laptops. And if you ask Steve Jobs, it’s the future of all laptops.

During his 90-minute presentation at Apple headquarters yesterday, Jobs introduced two models of a redesigned MacBook Air, an 11-inch and 13-inch. Both are supremely skinny (less than .11 inches at the tiniest point) and weigh in at just under three pounds. Two very explicit feature choices enabled that: leaving out the optical drive for loading discs, and the decision to drop the hard drive. Instead, there’s just a flash-based solid-state drive. And there’s going to be more where that came from.

“All notebooks will be like this someday,” Jobs said, adding that the Air is “the future of the MacBook.”

Why? Well, it’s a practical issue: Apple made that design choice in order to squeeze bigger, longer-lasting batteries inside and to slim down the profile as much as possible.

But it’s also related to a larger philosophical issue for Apple. Jobs framed it during his presentation yesterday that the new Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion) coming out next summer was heavily informed by the iPad and its instant-on, App Store-accessing iOS mobile operating system… Regcure

Israeli snatches world chess game record – from Iranian rival

October 28, 2010

Tel Aviv – An Israeli early Friday took the Guinness world record for simultaneous chess games from his country’s arch enemy – Iran.

Grandmaster Alik Gershon, 30, faced 527 amateur opponents at once on Tel Aviv’s central Rabin square, starting in the midday heat Thursday and finishing after dawn Friday.

He won 454, tied 58 and lost 11 games, Israeli media reported. To break the record, he needed to win more than 80 per cent.

The previous record was held by Iran’s Morteza Mahjoob, who in August 2009 played 500 simultaneous games.

Several Israeli lawmakers, as well as former Soviet dissident Natan Sharansky, now the chairman of the Jewish Agency, participated.

Gershon said he did physical exercise, including jogging and swimming, for months to prepare for the night-long challenge, which required a lot of walking between tables lined up on the square, and unrelenting focus… Reg cure

The Best online Forex Trading Software

October 27, 2010

There are numerous kinds of online forex platforms. Their quality of performance varies. There are good ones, but others are only so-so. However, it is hard to identify the good ones not until you’ve tried a number of them.   Each forex application will have its advantages, but you’d want those which have the most relevant tools that allow you to start trading the easy way and with least risks as possible.

Success in foreign trading depends on your ability to analyze forex trends and currency movements. Without it, your trades will be based primarily on guesses and guessing where your currency pair will end up in the next minutes, hours or at the end of the day is not a very profitable way of doing forex trading. It goes without saying that when you search for a suitable online platform, you start by comparing the features and quality of services of some of the more popular platforms available. You will want one providing live feeds of developments in the forex market. The info you get from the live feeds will not of any use to you if you cannot understand it. So the software you want will have graphs and charts and other forex indicators that can easily be interpreted. These indicators, the more detailed the information they generate, provide you with excellent ideas on what currency pair to trade, what specific time to trade and when to end the trade… Regcure.

Pound forecast to tumble on ‘insane’ spending cuts

October 27, 2010

Britain’s spending cuts have been branded as “absolutely insane” by one of the world’s leading currency traders, who expects the pound to tumble beyond the low it has set this year.

“I think what Britain is doing is absolutely insane” John Taylor, the founder of the $8bn FXConcepts fund, told The Sunday Telegraph. “The Conservatives will lose their stomach for this.”

Reducing Britain’s £156bn budget deficit is the cornerstone of the government’s plan for restoring the economy’s health. George Osborne, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, told Parliament last week that the £81bn in spending cuts would pull “Britain back from the brink… Regcure”
